Pilot Reported That There Was A Total Loss Of Engine Power While 1,200 Feet Above Ground Level Analysis: The pilot reported that there was a total loss of engine power while 1,200 feet above ground level and about 6 nautical miles short of his destination. He performed an off-airport landing, in a pasture, with cows at the far end. During short final, the pilot had to maneuver to avoid rough terrain and a fence and then flared the airplane too high and yawed to one side which resulted in a hard landing. The tailwheel collapsed and there was substantial damage to the rudder.

Pilot Reported That The Accident Flight Was The First Flight Of The Recently Completed Amateur-Built Airplane On January 5, 2026, about 1545 central standard time, a Canard Aero LLC (Scalewings) SW-51 Mustang, N351MT, was substantially damaged when it was involved in an accident near Fredericksburg, Texas. The pilot was not injured. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 91 flight test flight. The pilot reported that the accident flight was the first flight of the recently completed amateur-built airplane. He said that during initial climb after takeoff rotation the airplane’s engine lost power and he attempted to land the airplane on the remaining runway.

It’s a small single-place airplane, it qualifies as an ultralight, and is so shiny you need dark glasses just to look at it in the sunlight. ANN’s News Editor, Tom Patton, had a sit-down and chat with, Steve Cole, who is the builder and owner of this Hummel UltraCruiser which took the Grand Champion Ultralight trophy this year at Oshkosh. It’s a plans-built airplane that Cole completed with unbelievable attention to detail. The all-aluminum airframe is shiny beyond belief and Cole tells us how he did it. It’s a process that works, but it’s probably not for everybody.

Stralis Aircraft, the Brisbane, Australia-based developer of hydrogen-electric propulsion systems and aircraft, announced a second commitment from Bremen, Germany-based EVIA AERO GmbH for five Beechcraft Bonanza-A36-HE retrofits. The NTSB released an update on its investigation into the crash of UPS Flight 2976 that provides detail on the structural failure shortly after takeoff, confirming that the engine separation occurred at the engine-to-wing attachment point. Detailed materials analysis conducted at the agency’s lab identified fatigue cracking in components associated with the left engine pylon attachment. Investigators found that the cracking had developed over time, and additional damage consistent with the structure failing under load at the moment of final separation. Aero Linx: WACO Historical Society With the help of the WACO Historical Society (founded in 1978) members and many generous donors and supporters, Historic WACO Field opened in 1997. The field consists of a 77 acre site and features a 2200 foot runway (2000 feet usable) south of Troy, Ohio. Historic WACO Field is maintained by WACO volunteers and is constantly receiving upgrades and improvements, but we are always in need of additional volunteers to assist in the upkeep of the site.

On His Third Circuit Of The Traffic Pattern, When Turning To The Downwind Leg, The Airplane “Steepened Its Bank And Nosed Down.” On December 17, 2025, at 1410 eastern standard time, an experimental amateur-built Velocity V-Twin airplane, N22EU, was substantially damaged when it was involved in an accident near Nashua, New Hampshire. The pilot received minor injuries. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 personal flight. The pilot was flying the airplane in the airport traffic pattern. On his third circuit of the traffic pattern, when turning to the downwind leg, the airplane “steepened its bank and nosed down.”
