ANN's Daily Aero-Linx (01.15.26)
Sat, Jan 17,2026 03:49:00PM EST
Aero Linx: Civil Aerospace Medical Institute (CAMI) The FAA Civil Aerospace Medical Institute (CAMI) is the medical certification, research, education, and occupational health wing of the FAA's Office of Aerospace Medicine. The goal of our activities is to enhance aviation safety. After America's first successful flight in 1903, the first aviation fatality could not be far off. Amazingly, five years would pass before the first fatal accident. But since then, safety has been an important concern. In 1926, the Civil Aeronautics Act marshaled the talents of the medical profession to certify that all aviators are physically fit to fly.

The astronauts are approaching the end of a six-month stay aboard the International Space Station, and returning them to Earth in the next few days would not shorten their planned mission by much. The FCC has opened the door for SpaceX to double its second-generation Starlink network, authorizing the company to operate up to 15,000 Gen2 satellites. According to the FCC, “SpaceX is authorized to construct, deploy, and operate an additional 7,500 Gen2 Starlink satellites, bringing the total to 15,000 satellites worldwide. A recreational tightrope - called a slackline - strung half a mile across a remote Arizona canyon likely triggered a helicopter crash that killed four family members from Oregon. Airborne 01.09.26: Pilot Sues Boeing, KSMO Violations, Plane Theft

Attorneys for pilot Brandon Fisher filed the lawsuit in Multnomah County Circuit Court in Portland, Ore., asking for $10 million in damages. KSMO has screwed up again... The FAA issued a ruling that Santa Monica Municipal Airport violated federal law by accumulating surplus revenues and intending to use the funds for general city services after the airport closes rather than for aviation purposes as required by law. Aero-News: Quote of the Day (01.16.26)
Sat, Jan 17,2026 03:47:52PM EST
"With no warning we were all fired yesterday morning via email. I would expect worsening service over the coming weeks and months, as many engineering teams who supported various features were simply removed with no opportunity for knowledge transfer. This happened due to ForeFlight's sale to private equity (Thoma Bravo) last year, who plans to move all engineering offshore. ForeFlight was an incredible company to work for with amazing benefits and so much emphasis on pilot safety and support as well as product quality. This is a huge shame and disappointment and many incredible engineers lost their jobs."Source: From a social media report published by a self-identified ForeFlight staffer.
