Sat, Oct 25,2025 06:10:06PM EST
From 2023 (YouTube Edition): Acme Aerofab Black Ops Gear and Suspension Impress The viability of a backcountry aircraft is a function of numerous purpose-built components and systems functioning synergistically in service of utility and occupant safety. To at least the same degree as a robust airframe and a reliable powerplant, a rugged, resilient landing-gear system determines the fitness of an aircraft design for the rigors of backcountry flying. As part of its continuous improvement of the long-running, eminently proven Kitfox aircraft family, Kitfox Aircraft LLC and Acme Aerofab have partnered for purpose of offering the backcountry sector a superior landing-gear and suspension system—soon to be available across nearly the entire Kitfox lineup.

Airborne-NextGen 10.21.25: NZ Goes Electric, World Cup UAVs, eAviation Shuttered
Sat, Oct 25,2025 06:10:02PM EST
Also: SkyFly’s Axe Prototype, USAF CCA, AV Expands Switchblade, DropShip Cargo Drone Air New Zealand has taken its first big step toward electric aviation, flying the US-built BETA ALIA CX300 out of Tauranga Airport as part of what the airline calls a “technical demonstrator” program. The aircraft, on a four-month lease from BETA Technologies, will tour several New Zealand cities as the carrier evaluates its performance and gets its crews situated with the new systems. With the 2026 FIFA World Cup fast approaching, the White House is turning its attention to the airspace above with plans for a $500 million drone program. This is aimed at helping state and local governments counter potential drone threats and keep pace with ever-advancing aviation technology. The effort centers on safeguarding airspace over the 104 soccer matches scheduled across the United States next summer. Textron has confirmed that it will be retiring its eAviation business unit… but only its name. Programs within the sector, including Pipistrel, the Nexus eVTOL, and various military technologies, seemingly remain alive and well under the company’s other five divisions. The restructuring takes effect January 4, 2026. Much of eAviation’s portfolio, including Pipistrel’s light electric aircraft, will be absorbed by Textron Aviation. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne-NextGen!!!

Airborne 10.20.25: FAA Eases On Boeing, Flexjet Lawsuit, Textron Chops eAviation
Sat, Oct 25,2025 06:09:49PM EST
Also: Global 8000 Records, Cockpit Window Crack Mystery, Daher Brazilian Ops, Senators Push ADS-B/Safety Reviews Boeing has been approved to churn out up to 42 MAX jets per month, giving it some leeway from a cap that was set early last year after a door panel blew off an Alaska Airlines flight mid-air. This comes just a month after the FAA partially restored the manufacturer’s right to certify planes that roll off the line. Flexjet filed a lawsuit against Honeywell in 2023 related to non-fulfillment of a Mechanical Services Agreement the two companies entered into in 2018. Under the MSA, Honeywell was supposed to provide MRO services on several engine types used by Flexjet, but even from the beginning had challenges keeping up with the pace of those services. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne-Unlimited!!!

NTSB Final Report: Cirrus SR22
Sat, Oct 25,2025 06:09:40PM EST
Postaccident Examination Revealed That The Right Brake Linings Had Exceeded The Manufacturer’S Serviceable Wear Limit Analysis: The pilot was taxiing from the fixed-base operator’s building to the runway. As he increased brake pressure to stop the airplane before the runway hold short line, it turned to the left and completed a full 360° turn before coming to rest. The passenger then offered to try his brake pedals but the airplane only turned to the left; the pilot and passenger concluded they had no control of the right brake. The passenger then observed a fire emanating from under the right wing. The airport’s aircraft rescue and firefighting personnel responded and extinguished a fire associated with the right brake assembly. The right wing’s lower surface sustained substantial thermal damage during the ground fire.

Airborne 10.17.25: Gryder Airport/Gun Arrest, Hegseth C32 Probs, Hartzell Update
Sat, Oct 25,2025 06:09:35PM EST
Also: Helicopter Dog Rescue, USDOT Spared In Layoffs, Guardian Avionics, Isaacman Back In Running? The name ’Dan Gryder’ is fairly well known to many in aviation.... Whether you like him or not. ANN is examining Police reports that describe an armed confrontation that took place at 147 Sky Harbor Way, Griffin, Georgia, on October 12th between Dan and a resident he accused of blocking the taxiway with an RV (which was reportedly a regular occurrence)... and which allegedly developed into an assault on Gryder by fellow resident Tracy Darrell Wallace the day before. The U.S. Air Force C-32 transporting Secretary of War Pete Hegseth from Europe back to the states declared a general emergency over the Atlantic Ocean west of Ireland after departing from Brussels where he attended a meeting of NATO Defense Ministers. The air crew immediately performed a rapid descent from 35,000 feet to 10,000 feet, a maneuver that is consistent with an emergency procedure for cabin depressurization. While NBAA seems all about the jets, Hartzell goes out of their way to remind one and all that the great majority of BizAv operations depend on props.... Many of them built by Hartzell themselves. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne-Unlimited!!!

Airborne-Flight Training 10.23.25: PanAm Back?, Spirit Cuts, Affordable Expo
Sat, Oct 25,2025 06:09:24PM EST
Also: USAF Pilots, Advanced Aircrew Academy, ATC Hiring, Hop-A-Jet Sues Pan American is attempting a comeback. Aviation merchant bank AVi8 Air Capital, alongside Pan American Global Holdings, has officially kicked off the Part 121 airline certification process to reestablish what was once the picture of aviation luxury. Avi8 claims that it has “assembled a world-class team to lead the certification effort and has received strong initial support from aircraft lessors and key vendors.” Spirit Airlines is announcing further cuts to its workforce as its long-running bankruptcy restructuring drags on. The carrier announced that it will furlough 365 pilots in early 2026, marking another blow to a company already in survival mode after filing for Chapter 11 protection for the second time. OK.... with a little over 2 weeks to go, it’s time to get serious! Thanks to the folks at Sun n Fun, we have a highly professional online ticketing apparatus at our disposal for next month’s Affordable Flying Expo. And we have other good news... use the code “AFE2025” and you can get $5 OFF the adult ticket price of $15 or even more for a three day pass. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne!!!

Airborne 10.22.25: Rez Takes Plane, DJI v US Drone Ban, HK 747 Cargo Accident
Sat, Oct 25,2025 06:09:17PM EST
Also: DHS Under Fire, Air New Zealand, ALPA Praises Bipartisan Bill, Spirit Budget Cuts The Minnesota Pilots Association has issued an advisory regarding overflights of the Red Lake Indian Reservation in northwestern Minnesota. Turns out, the Red Lake Tribe of the Chippewa Indians passed a resolution denying the Air Force permission for low-level overflights and simultaneously, banning all flights below 20,000 feet above the reservation. DJI is taking its ‘Chinese Military Company’ label back to the Pentagon in hopes of regaining access to the US market. Judges decided just last month to uphold the DoD’s claims that the company is tied to the Chinese Communist Party despite dismissing much of the evidence. The ruling came in the form of a 49-page opinion that rejected most of the Defense Department’s accusations, including claims that DJI is owned by, controlled by, or directly affiliated with the Chinese Communist Party. An Emirates Boeing 747 cargo aircraft skidded off the runway after landing at Hong Kong International Airport (HKG/VHHH), crashed through a perimeter fence and collided with an airport security vehicle, and slid into the sea. Two people in the vehicle were killed and the aircraft ended up partially submerged just offshore. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne-Unlimited!!!

Airborne 10.24.25: NASA Admin Struggle?, MOSAIC Begins, Airshow Cancellations

Also: UAL v WX Balloon?, NASA Reopens Artemis III, Anti-Aero Menendez, Electric Aircraft Cooling Jared Isaacman, who was initially nominated for the role of NASA Administrator by President Donald Trump and then had his nomination withdrawn, met with SecTrans Sean Duffy on October 13, who interviewed him again for the position. However, reports have emerged that Secretary Duffy is interested in the role himself. The start of a new era of possibilities for recreational aviation is here now on the effective date of the MOSAIC – Modernization of Special Airworthiness Certification – rule from the FAA. For recreational flyers, the new rule has high training standards that have been tailored for the enjoyment of flying. It retains the necessary basics of aircraft operation, navigation, weather, and airport procedures. Additional elements not required for basic flight ops are available for subsequent training. With the shutdown of the US government progressing into its fourth week, air shows across the country are feeling the bite as all US military participation – both static and aerial performances – have been withdrawn for the third straight weekend and likely the fourth. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne-Unlimited!!!
