NTSB Final Report: Schleicher Alexander GMBH &Co ASH 26 E
Sat, Sep 23,2023 07:44:52PM EST
The Motor Glider Impacted The Ground About 77° Nose Down Attitude On August 31, 2023, about 1339 mountain daylight time, a Schleicher Alexander Gmbh & Co ASH 26E motor glider, N50FU, was substantially damaged when it was involved in an accident near Wellington, Colorado. The pilot sustained fatal injuries. The motor glider was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 personal flight. Transmitted flight track data from the International Gliding Commission (IGC) flight recorder showed the self-launching motor glider depart to the northwest from the Owl Canyon Gliderport (4CO2) at 1320. During the climb, several turns were performed and a maximum global positioning system (GPS) altitude of about 7,800 ft was observed at 1330.

“Training and verification of individual pilot credentials is a more just and legal approach than a blanket ban on an entire legal category of ultralights. USUA has used a similar philosophy when insuring pilots in our very successful third-party insurance program. Showing that the applicant has received some kind of training has proved to be a valid approach that has worked for years. Validating training can take all kinds of forms including an FAA pilot certificate, a CFI endorsement to solo, or training through a program like the USPPA for powered paragliders. A lot of FAA-certificated pilots fly ultralights, making some ultralight pilots more qualified than some general aviation pilots. If two Cessna 172s were involved in accidents at or near the airport, would the airport ban all Cessna 172s, all general aviation aircraft or all airplanes?” Source: Roy Beisswenger, of the US Ultralight Association, commenting on Holly Hill SC's inexplicable and decidedly unAmerican ban of ultralights at their small GA airport.

Also: SUN ‘n FUN 2024 Tickets, McFarlane FAA-PMA, Soyuz MS-24 Docks, Gulfstream Completes Appleton Two pilots are confirmed dead after the completion of a T-6 Gold Race as they returned to the field and collided in the process. Pilots at the site have furnished multiple reports that both aircraft collided while heading for final... with one aircraft getting its tail severed and impacting shortly thereafter, with the othercontinuing a short distance before going down. Reno officials ID’ed Nick Macy and Chris Rushing, as the pilots lost. Tragedy has hit again... with the Italian Frecce Tricolori Flight Demonstration Team at the center of it all. During a formation fly-by at the Turin Caselle Airport, this weekend, one aircraft was seen to drop out of a dual 'V'formation, followed seconds later by the pilot's ejection and the aircraft's impact near the end of the runway. The pilot has apparently survived but the jet's impact put it through the perimeter of the airport, and into nearby traffics. The debris collided with at least one vehicle subjecting a family inside to significant burns and other injuries... and causing the death of a five year-old girl. The North American B-25J medium-bomber dubbed Miss Mitchell will make a 04 through 08 October 2023 tour stop at Wichita, Kansas’s B-29 Doc Hangar, Education and Visitors Center. The legally-questionable fiat was predicated largely upon two accidents, both of which involved 'ultralight-type'aircraft, at the Holly Hill airport during the preceding 2 years. Councilmembers rationalized their collective overreach, ascribing such to a nebulous obligation to protect the health and welfare of the town’s citizenry. Also: ATI Strike Authorization, Seawind 3000 Accident, Lightspeed Anniversary, Lilium Jet Assembly SpaceX is fighting a puzzling lawsuit filed by the U.S. DOJ, which alleges they mainntain discriminatory hiring practices. SpaceX asserts the DOJ’s lawsuit is unconstitutional and has countersued. The DOJ charged: “The lawsuit alleges that, from at least September 2018 to May 2022, SpaceX routinely discouraged asylees and refugees from applying and refused to hire or consider them, because of their citizenship status, in violation of the Immigration and Nationality Act.” Last week, an Airbus A320 then operating as Ural Airlines flight U6-1383 departed Russia’s Black Sea resort city of Sochi bound for the south-central Siberian municipality of Omsk. Running low on fuel and observing an open field, the pilots configured the aircraft and executed a successful off-airport landing. Ural Airlines now appears to be preparing the A320 for what might amount to an unlikely takeoff from the field in which the machine has been mired for nearly one-week. A Nieuport 28 C.1 biplane went down during a World War I commemorative event staged at Stow, Massachusetts’s American Heritage Museum. The French biplane reportedly suffered loss of engine-power while on approach to the museum’s airfield. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne-Unlimited!!!

The SportPlane Resource Guide RETURNS!!!!
Sat, Sep 23,2023 07:43:44PM EST
Emphasis On Growing The Future of Aviation Through Concentration on 'AFFORDABLE FLYERS'It's been a number of years since the Latest Edition of Jim Campbell's HUGE SportPlane Resource Guide first saw the light of day. That massive 1100 page book last featured over 800 exciting sport aircraft from all over the SportPlane universe... at a time when the SportPlane industry was still a healthy, thriving enterprise (those were the days...). While there has been some consideration, off and on, toward updating the nearly 5 pound book, the near implosion of the SportPlane and kit industry over the last decade has made such a pursuit an unwieldy one... until now.
