NTSB Final Report: Schweizer Aircraft Corporation G164B Sat, May 02,2026 07:22:55PM EST Pilot Was Conducting An Agricultural Flight In The Turbo-Propeller Equipped Airplane When The Engine Lost Partial Power Analysis: The pilot was conducting an agricultural flight in the turbo-propeller equipped airplane when the engine lost partial power. The pilot was unable to maintain altitude and performed a forced landing in a nearby crawfish pond. The airplane came to rest inverted in the pond. The fuselage, upper wings, and empennage were substantially damaged during the forced landing. A postaccident engine examination revealed no evidence of preimpact engine failure that would have precluded normal operation. There were multiple indications that the engine was producing power at impact, including rotational rubbing marks in the compressor, compressor turbine (CT), and power turbine (PT); however, the engine’s power output at impact could not be determined. |
ANN FAQ: How Do I Become A News Spy? Sat, May 02,2026 07:22:52PM EST We're Everywhere... Thanks To You! Even with the vast resources and incredibly far-reaching scope of the Aero-News Network, every now and then a story that should be reported on slips through our fingers. There's a lot of news out there, and sometimes we just don't get to all of it. Fortunately for us, we realized early on we couldn't be everywhere at once -- curse the laws of physics! -- so we came up with the idea of News-Spies. Just as the title suggests, a News-Spy is a reader who notices a news item -- be it in the newspaper, on television, or something they came across at their own airport, town hall, at the office water cooler or just by walking down the street -- basically, any item a reader may think is newsworthy, that pertains to the world of aviation. |

Airborne-NextGen 04.28.26: Drone Pizza!!, NASA Finds Molecules, Drone v Rescue Sat, May 02,2026 07:22:45PM EST Also: Autonomous CH-47F Chinook, Crew-13 Announcement, Reliable Robotic$$$, FL Stops ADS-B Data Gouge For those who aren’t quite up to date: drone food delivery is a thing, and it’s now capable of feeding a family of 6 in one trip. This is thanks to Flytrex’s new heavy-lift Sky2 drone, which is being launched in partnership with Little Caesars and can carry up to 8.8 pounds. That 8.8 pounds makes Sky2 able to handle two 16-inch pizzas, Crazy Bread, and drinks without needing to spread the order across multiple flights. A rock that NASA’s Curiosity Mars rover drilled and analyzed in 2020 includes the most diverse collection of organic molecules ever found on the Red Planet. Of the 21 carbon-containing molecules identified in the sample, seven were detected for the first time. Their discovery renewed confirmation that ancient Mars had the right chemistry to support life. A mountain rescue in the UK Lake District was set back after a drone pilot flew dangerously close to an active helicopter operation, leaving crews stuck in position during a critical airlift. While, luckily, the story had a relatively positive outcome, the continuous growth in unauthorized drone activity raises concerns about how long that luck will continue. ANN's Daily Aero-Linx (05.01.26) Sat, May 02,2026 07:22:39PM EST Aero Linx: Funk Aircraft Owners Association The Model B was the first powered aircraft designed by brothers Howard and Joe Funk, whose previous experience was in homebuilt gliders and sailplanes. Similar in appearance to a Piper Cub, their Model B was a strut-braced high-wing monoplane with a conventional tail unit and fixed tailwheel landing gear. The design uses mixed construction with fabric covered wooden wings and a welded steel-tube fuselage. The aircraft was powered by the brothers'own Model E engine developed from a Ford "B"motor-car engine. When the test flights were successful the brothers formed the Akron Aircraft Company in 1939 to build the Funk B. After production began, the engine was changed to a 75hp (56 kW) Lycoming GO-145-C2 horizontally-opposed four-cylinder engine and was re-designated the Model B-75-L.... |

Aero-News: Quote of the Day (05.01.26) Sat, May 02,2026 07:22:21PM EST “There is no air force in the world that can do what the United States Air Force does. But in order to maintain this superiority, we need to make sure we are retaining our best aviators. Over the past decade, we’ve seen more and more mid-career pilots leave for better pay in the commercial airline industry or private sector. That’s why I’m joining my colleagues in introducing the bipartisan RETAIN Act and Fighter Aircrew Career Flexibility Act to help address these pilot shortages.” Source: Sen Kaine, commenting on a new bill, dubbed the Retention Enhancements for Tactical Aircrew Initiative, or RETAIN Act, would require the Air Force to pay maximum aviation incentive pay, increase retention bonuses up to $100,000, and allow airmen to transition indefinitely to non-combat aviation career paths. |
